The Memphis movement was originally initiated by Ettore Sottsass in the 80s, who gathered a group of fellow designers with a vision to start a revolution against the sober and functional ear of modernist design. They took their name from a Bob Dylan song titled Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again which was played on repeat during their first meeting. The Milan-based Memphis Group went on to develop one of the most recognizable styles of the late 20th century.
